Tim Carroll has had an interesting life. He grew up in rural Indiana, near the town of Terre Haute. He joined a Punk Rock band called the Gizmos. When they moved to New York he became a New Yorker and become friends with the band Rank & File, a local group of punk rockers gone country. He began to become interested in Country music and started listening to Hank, Lefty and Jimmie Rogers. He also began writing at this time fusing all of those influences into his own special Southern-fried Roots Rock. After playing in the Blue Chieftans for 5 years he moved to Nashville in March of '93 to become a successful songwriter. He felt that he had gone as far as he could in the Chieftains and with his success with his song, "If I Could, Then I Would" recorded by John Prine, he felt he needed to explore that avenue of the music business. Since then his songs have appeared on many other's CD. His music is a country rock with sometimes gritty and sometimes Traditional edge to it. The new album: "Free Again" for example has a song called "Man On The Run" that in it's simplicity has what personifies a great Johnny Cash song. The music keeps it's raw power chugging along by relying on the basic guitar, bass and drum rhythm section. His voice is sometimes reminiscent of Neil Young and that is only more accentuated by the basic Country/Rock/Roots basis their music often shares. He goes back even further into the Country though and for our Traditional listeners that like their music a little more Southern Fried, Tim is the ticket! Solid listening from Tim Carroll on both albums: Not For Sale and Free Again. Visit Tim at:
